Not Worth The Headache
Review Date: 2/21/2007 Reviewer: Anonymous
I have lived in Annapolis Roads for almost a year now. I find the apartment itself to be nice, the noise to be quite low, and I do feel safe in general. The mainetance crew has been average, and generally speaking they have visited twice rather quickly and resolved two very minor problems. To say that the management is "bad" would be a severe understatement. Upon moving in, one of the selling points was that our first month in the apartment would cost us the temperature outside. Both the flyer we were given and their website advertised this deal, and in quotes it said "It's that easy." We did not receive this discount, and paid full price for our first month. The claim was made that we could only receive this deal on a "vacant" apartment, and since we were moving into an apartment of an individual who was breaking her lease we were not eligible for the discount. Since then I have had no problems with management, because I have had no reason to talk to them since. After the recent ice storm, our apartment was out of power for four days, which I do not blame the apartment for. But after the power came on, for four additional days, we did not have heat, which is included in our rent payment. The apartment said that they needed a part for their heating system. Our apartment was generally in the 40 degree range over this time interval, and we obviously lived out of suitcases for days. We were told the heat would be on Monday, and then were called Monday evening saying that it wouldn't be on until Tuesday. They did offer to give us two space heaters that could get our apartment into the 60's, so we said OK, figuring that we had spent too many nights away from our home. The space heaters never arrived and we spent an extremely cold night together. The next day we were told that the heat was fixed and even received a note from maitenance. The heat will come on up to about 68 degrees, but no higher. Once the apartment is at 68 degrees it will start to blow out lukewarm air that does nothing but maintain the temperature. We asked if we would be receiving any prorate for this month since we lost four days of living there, which is approximately $150. There response was that it wasn't their fault, that the heaters broke because they were under too much strain after the power came back on. They did manage however to pocket substantial amounts of money by not heating anyones apartment for four days. We are still living in the apartment and I think a lot of residents feel similar to us - hopefully when lots of people start moving out (we are in April) they will get the message. In short, never rent from them. It has been a headache and right now I fear that even leaving after the completion of our apartment will be a mess and we will lose even more money. I have been extremely frustrated with the way things have been handled and wouldn't wish my experience on anyone reading this, thinking about Annapolis Roads Apartments. |
